The Effectiveness of Using Flashcard Media in Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery (A Quasi Experimental Reseach at Seventh Grade MTS Al-Khairiyah Tegal Buntu Cilegon City)

This study investigates the effectiveness of using flashcard media to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of MTs Al Khairiyah Tegal Buntu, Cilegon City. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: an experimental class and a control class. The total sample consisted of 35 students, with 18 students in the experimental class and 17 in the control class. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions covering nouns, verbs, adjectives, antonyms, synonyms, and vocabulary in context. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class increased from 59.77 to 76.44, while the control class improved from 60.11 to 69.76. The independent sample t-test result (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.075; t = 1.857) indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.628) showed a moderate effect, confirming that flashcard media had a meaningful impact on students’ vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, flashcard media were effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery and encouraging students to be more active and motivated in learning English.
