Implementing ICARE (Introduction, Connection, Application, Reflection, Extension) Learning Model to Improve Students’ Speaking Skills (A Classroom Action Research at Eighth Grade of MTs Attaqwa Kota Tangerang)

This study aims to improve the speaking skills of eighth-grade students at MTs Attaqwa Kota Tangerang by applying the ICARE (Introduction, Connection, Application, Reflection, and Extension) learning model. This study was conducted because students experienced difficulties in speaking English, such as lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, poor pronunciation, and poor fluency. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design consisting of two cycles: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research participants were 20 students in class VIII B in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through speaking tests, interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. Pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension were the five criteria used to assess a person's speaking performance. The results showed that the application of the ICARE learning model significantly improved students' speaking skills. The average score increased from 56,4 in the pre-cycle to 70,4 in cycle I and 82,6 in cycle II, and the percentage of students who achieved a passing grade increased from 15% in the pre-cycle to 40% in cycle I and 85% in cycle II. In conclusion, the application of the ICARE learning model effectively improves students' speaking skills by encouraging active participation, reflective learning, and real communication practice.
