The Effectiveness of the Jigsaw Technique to Improving Student's Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text. (An Experimental Research at Nine Grade of MTSN 1 Pandeglang)

Reading is essential for students because of its valuable benefits in developing knowledge. There are approaches to teaching reading, such as top-down, bottom-up, and interactive approaches. Several studies have been conducted on applying interactive strategies, such as the jigsaw learning method. To teach narrative texts, researchers tried to observe and analyse the effectiveness of the Jigsaw learning method using experimental research. This research used quantitative and qualitative methods (Mixed method). The population of this study was class IX students of MTsN 1 Pandeglang. The sampling technique uses quota sampling, totalling 60 students. The sample was divided into two groups, namely, class IX-F as the experimental class and class IX-I as the control class, and each class consisted of 30 students. The instrument of this research is an essay option test, which includes a pre-test and post-test, as well as a written interview. The results of this research were obtained from calculating data using the ttest with a significance level (α) = 0.05. This research shows increased students' abilities and comprehension in reading narrative texts. Obtaining experimental class scores (21.1) is higher than the control class (10). From statistical results, calculations obtained a t-observation value (to) of 5.66 and degrees of freedom (df) of 58 in the 5% degree value significance table. The significance is 2.00. If these values are compared, the result is 5.66 > 2.00, which means the observation score (to) is higher than the t-table (tt). In other words, the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted, and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that the Jigsaw strategy can be applied to learning reading comprehension in narrative text. This research shows that the jigsaw strategy improves students' narrative reading comprehension
