The Effectiveness of The Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery in Descriptive Text (A Quasi Experimental Research on Class VII Students at SMP Negeri 2 Cimanuk Pandeglang)
This research aims to find out whether the vocabulary self-collection strategy is
effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery in descriptive texts at SMP Negeri
2 Cimanuk Pandeglang. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Cimanuk
Pandeglang with class VII samples. The research sample was taken by purposive
random sampling which was carried out randomly with certain considerations. This
research uses a quasi-experimental method, namely to determine the effect of the
treatment carried out in the form of using vocabulary self-collection strategies in
learning descriptive texts. The data collection technique is by carrying out an initial test
(pre-test) and a final test (post-test). After the data is collected, the next step is to test the
prerequisites for analysis, followed by hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the
final analysis which was carried out with a normality test using the Kolmogorov
Smirnov Test and a homogeneity test using the Levene Test, it showed that the two
samples came from a population with a normal and homogeneous distribution.
The research results show that the tcount value is greater than ttable (3.034 >
2.002) with a significance level of 0.05, which means the Ha hypothesis is accepted.
These results show that the vocabulary self-collection strategy is effective in improving
students' vocabulary mastery in descriptive text in class VII students at SMP Negeri 2
Cimanuk Pandeglang.
