<note>This study used a descriptive qualitative method that aimed to identify students' needs for teaching materials for writing skills, analyze the quality of the materials used, reveal the obstacles faced by teachers and students at SMPN 2 Ciruas, and provide recommendations for appropriate teaching materials. Respondents in this study consisted of 152 students and 1 eighth grade English teacher. The results showed that students needed teaching materials that support the development of creativity, such as writing exercises for fictional stories, articles, and descriptions. Short story writing exercises and grammar exercises were considered the most helpful, both by students and teachers. The main difficulties students had in writing English included using correct grammar, finding ideas, and composing writing. In general, the teaching materials used were quite relevant to the curriculum and students' needs, equipped with sample texts, gradual exercises, and supporting media. However, challenges were still found such as low vocabulary mastery, differences in abilities between students, and varying learning motivations. Teachers also faced difficulties in guiding students with low basic reading and writing skills. Most students considered the teaching materials to be quite good and appropriate to their abilities, although some considered that there needed to be improvements in the clarity of instructions and the quality of sample texts. Recommendations for future material development include the presentation of more contextual text examples, more systematic and easy-to-understand writing guides, and exercises that encourage student creativity.</note>
