Development of Teaching Materials through Differentiated Instruction based on Student's Learning Styles
Education in the 21st century must equip students with the ability to acquire knowledge, foster creativity, utilize various technologies and information media, and develop essential life skills for survival and employment. Students’ talents and abilities can be enhanced through English language learning, particularly with the use of appropriate and differentiated teaching materials tailored to their learning styles. The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, led by Nadiem Makarim, has introduced the Merdeka Belajar program, which emphasizes differentiated learning aligned with students’ learning styles and specific learning achievement. This study focuses on developing speaking teaching materials. Conducted as Research and Development (R&D), the study involved 8th-grade students at SMPIT Putri Al Hanif, Cilegon. The research adopted Tomlinson’s development model, consisting of eight stages, and produced a textbook comprising six learning materials for the first semester. The findings reveal that the textbook is highly feasible, with a validity score of 97% based on evaluations by content and media experts, and moderately effective, with an n-gain score of 0.77. These results indicate that the speaking teaching materials are highly engaging, suitable for use, and effective in improving students’ speaking skills.
