The Effectiveness of Word Matching Game on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery (A Quasi- Experimental Research at The Eight Grade Students of SMPN 18 Kota Serang)


This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of the Word Matching Game on Vocabulary Mastery of Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 18 Kota Serang. This Research used a quasi-experimental method with two classes, namely class VIII B as the control class and class VIII A as the experimental class. After the data was collected, the researcher analyzed the data using the t-test. Based on the results of the study, the researcher found the average pre-test in the experimental class was 60.33 and the average post-test score in the experimental class was 70.67. Meanwhile, the average pre-test in the control class was 57.50 and the average post-test score in the control class was 62.17. Based on the data results, the observation value (2.411)> t-table (1.672) at 5%, and observation (2.411)> t-table (2.392) at 1%. Thus, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This means that the Word Matching Game is effective in helping to improve students' vocabulary mastery. Then, the effect size obtained was 0.61 which proves that the Word Matching Game is effective at a moderate level, on the vocabulary mastery of class VIII students at SMPN 18 Kota Serang.
