<note>This study investigates the effectiveness of Socrative web for formative
assessment in enhancing descriptive writing skills among tenth-grade
students at MAN 1 Serang. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a sample of 60 students, divided equally into 30
control and 30 experimental classes. The experimental group received
instruction using Socrative web, while the control group received traditional
instruction without Socrative web. Following the treatment, both groups
underwent a post-test assessment. Results indicated that the average post-test
score for the experimental group was 61.4, whereas it was 57.7 for the
control group. Statistical analysis revealed an observed t-value of -4.366,
which surpassed the critical t-value of 1.67 at a significance level of 5%, thus
leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis and rejection of the
null hypothesis. The effect size, measured by Cohen’s d, was -1.127,
indicating a substantial difference favoring the experimental group. These
findings highlight the significant impact of integrating Socrative web into
formative assessment practices for teaching descriptive writing.</note>
