An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts Used in English Speeches YouTube Channel (A Content Analysis of Pragmatic Studies)
This research discusses about the illocutionary act types which were performed on English Speeches YouTube Channel. This research has two purposes, those are: To analyze the types of illocutionary acts used in English Speeches YouTube Channel, and to know how the illocutionary acts conveyed in the English Speeches YouTube Channel. The method used in this research is the qualitative descriptive and using Searle‟s illocutionary act theory. The subject of this research was three videos that was uploaded by English Speeches on YouTube. First video entitled “ENGLISH SPEECH | MICHELLE, MELINDA & AMAL: Stronger Together”, second video entitled “ENGLISH SPEECH | LEEN AL-KASSAB: Breaking Stereotypes”, and third video entitled “ENGLISH SPEECH | TAYLOR SWIFT: Crafting Emotions”. This research finding that from the first video, found 22 data divided into 13 data of assertive act, 1 data of commissive act, 7 data of directive act, 1 data of expressive act, and 0 data of declaration act. From the second video, the researcher found 25 data divided into 14 data of assertive act, 0 data of commissive act, 1 data of directive act, 8 data of expressive act, and 2 data of declarative act. From the third video, the researcher found 33 data divided into 23 data of assertive act, 1 data of commissive act, 5 data of directive act, 4 data of expressive act, and 0 data of declarative act. Based on the analysis, the assertive act has the highest frequency of use among the others; there are 50 data out of 80 data found on the three videos of English Speeches YouTube Channel. Meanwhile, only 2 data found on commissive act and 2 data found on declarative act, has a lowest frequency of use among others.
