Students’ Difficulties in Writing Narrative Text at The Second Year of Senior High School (A Qualitative Research at The Second Year of Daar El-Hasanah Senior High School)

The objectives of the research were to identify the causes and difficulties that students faced when writing narrative texts during the second year of the 2023/2024 academic year at Daar El-Hasanah Senior High School. Descriptive qualitative research was implemented as the research methodology. A total of 35 students were enrolled in the subject. Questionnaires and interviews were implemented in this investigation to accumulate data. The data was analyzed using three stages by Miles and Huberman: data reduction, data display, and conclusion formulation or verification. The results indicated that certain categories of students experienced challenges when writing narrative text, including grammar (misuse of tense, subject-verb agreement, article, identifying sentence patterns, types of sentences, and vocabulary). In general, the majority of students were unaware of the sequence of events, complications, and resolutions in generic structures. In addition, students' challenges with narrative writing were precipitated by inadequate time, inadequate practice, and inadequate motivation. The writer recommends that readers who aspire to improve their writing, particularly in narrative text, should focus on the correct principles of writing in every detail, as a result of the findings of this research.
