An Aalysis of Authentic Assessment in The English Textbook “Think Globally Act Locally”
Textbooks are essential instructional resources in schools because they establish the educational process that is relevant to the current curriculum, syllabus, student requirements, and instructional objectives. Thus, curriculum designers offer various solutions in textbooks. One of them is an authentic assessment. The aims of this research are to analyze the characteristics of authentic assessment and to find out the most dominant authentic assessment applied in the speaking tasks presented in the English textbook entitled “Think Global Act Locally”. This research is a qualitative approach that uses content analysis design to identify the data and uses documentation to collect the data. The data was taken from speaking tasks presented in the English textbook “Think Globally Act Locally”. The findings of this research show that there 77 appearances of character authentic assessment in the speaking task, which consisted of Realistic Activity or Context (18), Cognitively Complex (15), Performance-based (8), Collaborative (16), Defense is Required (7), Multiple Indicators or Portfolios (5), and Mastery Expectation (8). Then, based on the total of appearance, the researcher can conclude that the most authentic assessment criteria used in the English Textbook Think Globally Act Locally is Realistic Activity or Context.
