An Analysis of Cognitive Dimension in the English Examination Test Based on Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (Descriptive Study at The Ninth Grade of Junior High School)
This research aims to analyze the cognitive dimension of final semester assessment (PAS) in the first semester of ninth grade based on revised Bloom's taxonomy at SMPN 1 Baros and MTSN 2 Kota Cilegon in the 2023/2024 academic years. This research uses a content analysis approach to identify specific categories of items. The tests have 45 items on each package, so 90 question items are analyzed. Multiple choice is a form of question used in package 1. In package 2, 40 items are multiple-choice items, and 5 question items are essay items. The analysis results show that the proportion of HOTS-level questions is lower compared to LOTS from the two packages final semester assessment in the first semester. The percentages of LOTS and HOTS in the final semester assessment grade 9th the two schools are the same; LOTS reaches 89%, with 40 question items, while the HOTS percentage only reached 11%, with only 5 question items. In addition, the distribution of LOTS question items appears more dominantly at levels C1 (Remember) and C2 (Understand). Most of the question item formats ask for information about the content of the text or the question items are in the form of incomplete sentences and construct the meaning of the question. Research findings show that the exam questions used in the final semester assessment in the first semester in the ninth grade at SMPN 1 Baros and MTSN 2 Kota Cilegon still need to implement 21st century learning objectives in the exam questions. Questions or assignments in the LOTS category dominate in assessments or tests, will result in limited learning in developing the skills needed for this century, and may result in inaccurate assessments of student progress.
