<note>This research aims to find out whether there is any influence of probing prompting learning method towards simple past tense of English students’ at eight grade of SMPN 1 Baros. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with a total population of 305 students’. Through simple random sampling technique, 30 students’ of class VIII B were selected as the control class and 30 students’ of class VIII D were selected as the experimental class. The data analysis technique was using the Mann Whitney test on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for windows version 25 program. The result of this research indicate that (1) students’ learning outcomes in simple past tense taught using the probing prompting learning method obtained an arithmetic mean of 52.33; (2) students’ learning outcomes in simple past tense taught using the lecture-based learning obtained an arithmetic mean of 34.83; and (3) students’ of experimental class taught using the probing prompting learning method are higher than students’ of control class taught using lecture-based learning with a value of Sig. 0.005 &#60; 0.05. Furthermore, there is an influence on the use of probing prompting learning method towards students’ simple past tense as evidence by the increase in students’ learning outcomes at eight grade of SMPN 1 Baros.</note>
