<note>This study aims to determine the influence of student self-confidence in speaking performance of students at SMPN 1 Patia. The subjects of this study were ninth grade students, the method used in this study is quantitative descriptive with the data collection technique is student self-confidence questionnaire consisting of 14 questions and an oral test using assessment speaking which contains 3 criteria, Data analysis uses normality test, Linearity test and hypothesis test. based on the results of the analysis obtained the correlation value using product moment (rxy) revealed that r-observed 0,932 was 5 percent higher than r-table 0,361, the results showed that there is an influencing of self-confidence on students' speaking performance. And the linerality value the significance value of shows that the data value of 0.655 is higher than 0.05. this indicates that student confidence can influence student speaking performance which means that there is a relationship that affects other variables, which can be concluded that students will score high speaking performance scores if they have high self-confidence as well, With the results of this study, teachers can provide a process of learning activities that can increase students' self-confidence in speaking English without feeling anxious or afraid of making mistakes.</note>
