<note>The aim of this study was to explore Gen Z students’ perceptions regarding
the impact of employing Instagram applications to enhance vocabulary.
This study used a survey method. The instruments used in this study were
questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistical
analysis was used to analyze data from the questionnaire, and the data from
interviews were analyzed using the Flow model by Miles and Huberman.
This study was conducted at MAN 2 Cilegon with a population of students
in the academic year 2022/2023. One hundred and twenty-five participated
in this study (F=74, M=51). Then, twelve students participated in the
qualitative data collection process. The research findings showed that
most students had a highly positive perception of the impact that using
Instagram applications to improve vocabulary and they were interested
in employing this app as a means of acquiring new words outside of the
classroom. It was also found that students were able to increase their
vocabulary because Instagram offers entertaining, brief videos with
straightforward explanations and accounts that can be followed to watch
educational videos in English that cover topics like idioms, slang words,
phrases, and daily words. However, they also point out that watching
videos on Instagram might lead to other concerns including feeling
uneasy when using the app and experiencing troubles with a poor
internet connection and limited quota. The researcher concluded that
Instagram had a significant effect on students' English vocabulary at
MAN 2 Cilegon.</note>
