<note>Along with the progress of the times cultural changes and political
awareness about gender equality must become an important concern for
society. If this awareness is instilled in the education system, it is hoped that
it can change gender in the future. Socialization shown continuously will
surely become an ideology without realizing it. So, schools as agents of
change can instill values of gender equity through social interaction,
classroom interaction, and learning tools. This research aims to investigate
gender equity in the English textbook of the Merdeka curriculum entitled
“Bright an English” for the seventh grade by author Nur Zaida published by
Erlangga. The main focus of this research is to analyze gender equity in the
textbook by using Fakih’s theory and Helen’s definition of gender equity
itself. The researcher used content analysis and documents as primary data in
this research. The research result showed that the English textbook of the
Merdeka curriculum entitled Bright an English for the seventh grade by
author Nur Zaida and published by Erlangga found that the character of
males is mentioned more in the textbook than in females’ character. Counted
10 times with a frequency of 55.55% for the male category in reading text
and 8 times with a frequency of 44.44% for the female category, with a total
of 15 characters of males and females of gender equity in the reading text of
the textbook. In this study, the authors use the theory of Fakih and the
definition of Helen for the category of gender equality. which for this Fakih
theory there are stereotypes, subordination, marginalization, and double
burden/domestication. The results of the stereotype category in the textbook
mentioned 7 times for the male and 4 times for the female category, then for
the subordination category it is mentioned 3 times for females, then followed
by the double burden which is mentioned 5 times for the male category and
once for the female category. The last one is for the marginalization category
it is mentioned once for the male category and 3 times for the female
category.</note>
