The Effectiveness of Using Mnemonic Technique on Students' Vocabulary Mastery (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Seventh Grade Students of YPI Darul Bina Jakarta Utara)


This research investigates how is the effectiveness of mnemonic technique on students’ vocabulary mastery and how is before and after using mnemonic technique. This research uses experimental research by conducting observation, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. One class is experimental class (36 students) and another one is the control class (36 students) from MTs Darul Bina North Jakarta. The result of this research showed that; By using mnemonic technique the students’ vocabulary mastery has increased from the average 48,11 become 67,50 which the difference score is 19,39 points. There is an influence on using mnemonic technique as a media toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of MTs Darul Bina North Jakarta. It could be seen that the t-test result 2,434 is higher than the significant. The percentage of mnemonic technique in enhancing vocabulary wis also high. Based on the calculation of Cohen’s d Effect Size, it gained d= 0,570 which means based on the Cohen’s Effect Size Criterion Table, the use of mnemonic technique has enhanced students’ vocabulary with medium criterion as much as 73%.
