Students’ Motivation on Choosing English Study Program. (A Survey usingMixed method of English Department Student)

Motivation is the key to success in learning and determining a decision. In line, this study tried to find out students’ motivation , which careers they intend to pursue after graduation, and to analyze the conformity of students expectations with the courses provided by the English department. The method used in this study was Mix Method research. Quantitative to measure the questionnaire result with survey design, and Qualitative to explain the result of interview. The quesionnaire consist of 13 statement, and also 6 questions in interview. The sample of this study was 79 students in quesionnaire and 6 students in interview from 2nd semester at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. In this study, the writer used questionnaire based on L2MSS by Dornyei, and to strengthen the data, interviews was added. The result of this study shows that the total mean score of students motivation in 4.0. Additionally, students who want to become an entrepreneurs after graduation is higher those who want to become a teachers. The total mean score is 3.9 > 3.6. It means that the students at 2nd semester at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten had higher to become entrepreneurs than become a teachers. In other words, t he motivation to choosing English study program plays a crucial role in helping students consistently learn English successfully and has an interest in helping them to achieve their goals in the future.
