The aims of this study are to identified the type of modality and described semantic meaning of modality in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's songs. The data are all lyrics containing modality of 5 selected Taylor Swift’s songs on Folklore album, namely; August, Cardigan, Mad Woman, Seven and Peace. The study used qualitative content analysis method. The results showed that there were 31 modalities include epistemic modality; necessity (1) and probability (6). Deontic modality; obligation (2). And dynamic modality; ability (6) and volition (16). Furthermore, the most dominant semantic meaning of modality found in this study is volition. Volition in dynamic modality refers to a person's desire to take an action consciously or intentionally, which involves the decision and effort of the individual.
