<note>This research analysis of figurative language in songs. This research aimed 
to identify of figurative language in song materials in English Textbooks, 
find types and meaning of figurative language in song material in English 
Textbooks and disclose the dominant types of figurative language that used 
in those songs. This research used qualitative descriptive. The data were 
obtained from book of Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of 
Indonesia based on 2013 curriculum. Title of song they are, You’ve Got a 
Friend by Carole King , Heal The World by Michael Jackson, Hero by 
Mariah Carey, We Shall Overcome by Pete Seeger, and Stand By Me by Ben 
E King. By using figurative language theory of Perrine, the researcher 
observed the song lyric and took the sentences that contained figurative 
language. There are the meanings of those figurative language found in song 
materials in English Textbooks such as; hyperbole, personification, 
metaphor, metonymy, and euphemism. I can know from analysis of 
figurative language which used in lyrics of song materials in English 
Textbooks selected songs is “Hyperbole” that has to produce images in 
reader or listener mind and to explain ideas, emotions, and images in a more 
efficient way than through plain language. In addition, the author also used 
hyperbole to frame the idea and give context in order to allow the reader or 
listener to better understand what the author intends. There are 24 data that 
have found, 12 data of hyperbole, 4 data of personification, 1 data of 
metaphor, 1 data of metonymy, and 1 data of euphemism. It can be conclude 
that the dominant types of figurative language in those songs is hyperbole.</note>
