<note>This study aims to analyze the types and causes of errors made in 
Student narrative text in 9th grade at Mtss Al-fathaniyah. This study 
uses a case study method with a descriptive qualitative approach, and 
the writer uses tests and interviews in data collection. Then the data 
results are analyzed using Dulay's theory, namely the surface 
taxonomy strategy, to determine the type of error and use John 
Norrish's theory to determine the causes of errors. The results are 
obtained Total errors made by class 9D MTSs Al-fathaniyah students 
in using the simple past tense in writing narrative text were 172, with 
omissions of 41 errors, Addition of 24 errors, Misformations of 60 
errors, and misordering of 47 errors, and the cause of the error is in 
the use of the simple past tense in writing narrative text, namely 
Translation with a percentage of 44%, and carelessness which is 38% 
and natural language interference which is 18%. So the type of error 
that most students make is misformation, and the cause of the error 
namely Translation.</note>
