<note>This study aims to describe students’ self-confidence in English speech at seventh grade of junior high school in the English speech contest. This study used a case study. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, questionnaire, and interview. These results of findings indicate that there are four factors that trigger lack of confidence in speaking English, including: (1) Feeling inferior because of being rivaled by others, (2) Speaking mentally weak English in public, (3) The Difficulties of students to pronounce, (4) Loss memories. Therefore, the students are expected to be able to take knowledge and lessons that are in accordance with the theme in the speech text. Learning English and compiling material to be delivered in front of the general public is apparently obligatory. The personality of the student is very taken into account considering there are other students who may be better than them. The student must see and adapt to match the feedback from the audience. When English is applied by the student properly and correctly. Then the student will feel comfortable speaking in English and very confident in what they speak in English.</note>
