<note>This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using English self-video
recordings on students' speaking skills on recount text. This study employed
quasi-experimenta method with population was the tenth grade students of
SMK Semesta. The number of samples in this study was 60 students who
were selected through simple random sampling technique. This sample was
divided into two groups, Class X1 as the experimental group and Class X2 as
the control group. The data were obtained from some research instruments
such as pre-test, post-test, interview as well as classroom observation. Pretest was given before treatment and post-test was given after treatment. Data
from pre-test and post-test of both groups were analyzed statistically by
using t-test formula. The results compared tt with t0 at the 5% significance
level were 1.67 showed that t0 tt or 3.83 > 1.67. The t-test indicates that Ha or
alternative hypothesis were accepted and H0 or null hypothesis were rejected,
in other word that there is an influence of using English self video recording
on recount text. The post-test average score for the experimental class was
70.9, while the average post-test score for the control class was 65. It showed
that both classes experienced an increase in the post test score. In addition,
Cohen's results formulation is 0.99. It shows that has strong effect of using
English self video recording on recount text to developing students' speaking
ability. It can be concluded that the use of English video recordings using
recount texts can affect students' speaking ability in the tenth grade of SMK
Semesta.</note>
