<note>Based on the Curriculum 2013, one of the objectives of learning 
English is to develop communication competencies in spoken and 
written form to achieve functional literacy levels. The communication 
competencies, one of them is manifested in speaking activities. 
Actually, there are many variables that affect students’ speaking skills. 
Therefore, this study has a main objective is to assess the relationship 
between Emotional Intelligence and studnets’ speaking skills during the 
Covid-19 Pandemic Period. This study utilized correlational method 
with data collection through questionnaire, speaking test, and interview. 
The result of this study showed that Emotional Intelligence has a 
significant relationship toward students’ speaking skills. It reflected on 
the statistical calculation by using Pearson Product Moment which 
showed that r-count greater than r-table (0.966 &#62; 0.334) at the 
significance level of 0.05 and N= 35.</note>
