<note>This research discussed the derivational affixes in The Jakarta Post
articles. Derivation is one type of linguistics morphology that involved
word formation, and there are affixes used to construct new word. The
exploration of the affixes is urgent to conduct because it would assist
learners of English in general in enriching their vocabulary. The aims is
to classify the types and discover the most dominant type used in The
Jakarta Post world section. The data are all words containing derivation
and affixes that found in three selected articles. Qualitative content
analysis method used to analyze the data. The results of this research
showed that derivational prefixes consist of re-, inter-, un-, non, -en.
While, derivational suffixes consist of -ian/-an, -ist, -ly, -al, -er/-or, -
ity, -ise/ize, -ation/-ion, -ment, -ate, -dom, -ful, -able, -ence.
Furthermore most dominant type is verb to noun type. Vast words in
English might be have one or more grammatical classes for one word,
by knowing how word constructed learners will be able to understand
the right meaning of a word in every context.</note>
