Asynchronous Learning Using YouTube In English Language Learning (A Qualitative Research at 10th Grade of SMAN 4 Kota Serang)


This study investigated asynchronous learning using YouTube in English language learning. This study aims to know students perspective about the effectiveness and challenges of asynchronous learning using Youtube. This is a qualitative descriptive approach. Questionnaire and interview were used as data collecting instruments. The sample in this data are 30 students from 10th grade of science at SMAN 4 Kota Serang. The results showed that the effectiveness of asynchronous learning using YouTube in learning English is not as effective as traditional face to face learning, YouTube has benefits in learning English but has its own weaknesses. Due to the weak network connection, students may not be able to concentrate on the lectures, and teaching and learning become ineffective due to the challenges faced by the students. In addition, students also face some challenges, such as difficulty in interaction and insufficient quotas for material access.
