Correlation between students’ Self Efficacy and their speaking achievement at the Grade of MTsN 5 Tangerang)
This research investigated to find out the correlation and to define the significance of the correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their speaking skills at the second grade students of MTsN 5 tangerang in the academic year of 2019/2020. The research methodology used in this research is quantitative research design specifically correlational research method. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire to find out self-efficacy scores and Performance test to find out speaking scores. This research involved 70 students as sample. Among the second grade of MTsN 5 Tangerang year 2019 as population. The result of this research shows that there is a positive significant correlation between the students’ self-efficacy and their speaking skills. The correlation result is r count = 0.637 and significance value is ρ = 0.000. The r table for N = 70 is 0.235. Therefore, r count is more than r table (0.637> 0.235) which means there is a correlation between the two variables. The correlation is considered as moderate correlation because r count (0.637) is between 0.600 and 0.799. In addition, the significance value is less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) which indicates that the correlation is significant. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The result of this research explained that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy towards their speaking skills at the eleventh grade students of MTsN 5 Tangerang academic year 2019/2020.
