<note>Skripsi of English Department at The Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University of Banten. Advisers : Dr. Apud, M.Pd. and Ila Amalia, M.Pd. This research is conducted to investigating of sound changes by the student in pronouncing english diphthong. The problem in this research is 1) What types of sound changes made by student in pronouncing diphthong ?. The subject of this research was the first grade at SMAN 1 mancak. There was 16 student of the research from 22 student in the class X IPA 1. The data of the research instrument are the results of the pronounciation test of diphthong words. This research used a qualitative method with case study design. Based on the analysis of the data, the researcher concluded that the type sound changes that the researcher found. The first is lenition and fusion were in the top rank in the most frequent sound changes . The total number cases of lenition and fusion is 7 cases or 43,75 %. The second one is syncope total 5 cases or 31,25 %, weakening sound total 2 cases or 12,5 % , and the last rank is sound addition and unpacking with only one cases or 6,25 %.</note>
