<note>This research, answered the research question about students’ listening skill and the obstacles of the students’ listening skill based on metacognitive strategies. The aim of this research is to investigate the students’ listening skill through their metacognitive strategy. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative case study approach to collect the data, this research used questionnaire and interview to collected the data. This research involves 36 students as a sample consists of 12 male and 24 female among the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Kragilan. The research finding showed that all of the students were have the five factors of metacognitive listening strategies to face their difficulties in listening. The five factors were, 1) Problem solving represents a group of strategies used by listeners to inference or guess at what they do not understand, 2) Planning and evaluation, represent the strategies listener use to prepare themselves the listening and evaluate of their listening efforts, 3) Mental translation, represent strategies must learn to avoid if they are to become skilled listeners,4) Person knowledge, represent listeners’ perceptions concerning the difficulties, 5)Directed attention, represent if the listeners’ concentration and stay on the task. The implications from this research are students have used metacognitive to overcome difficulties in listening, the teacher can provide understanding and awareness of students about the effective use of metacognitive in students before listening. In conclusion, metacognitive have significant effect toward students’ listening skill and students can analyze their difficulties in listening with using metacognitive strategies.</note>
