<note>This study is designed to find out the effectiveness of using story map to improve students’ writing skill on recount text, especially at the eighth grade of MTs Darun ni’am. It is conducted based on the research questions 1) How is students’ initial writing skill on recount text at the eighth grade of MTs Darun Ni’am?., 2) How is the effectiveness of story map in students’ writing skill on recount text at MTs Darun Ni’am?. And the aims of this study are 1) To observe the students’ initial writing skill on recount text at the eighth grade of MTs Darun Ni’am., 2) To examinesthe effectiveness of students’ writing skill on recount text through story map at MTs Darun Ni’am. This study used Quasi-experimental research design and the data is collected from 60 students in two classes (Experimental class and Control class). The result of this study is showed from the data of pre-test and post test-test score. It can be seen from the mean of pre-test score in experimental class (45.83)., and the mean of post-test score (70.5). Meanwhile, based on the statistical calculation the value of (8.57)., and df (58) in sinificance 5% ( =1.67) and in significance 1% ( ). From comparing the and , the result is = 8.57 and = 8.57 It means that t-observation ( is higher than t-table ( ), so null hypothesis ( is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. In other word, There is a significant effect of using story map toward students’ writing skill on recount text.</note>
