Exploring Small Group Discussion Method in teaching speaking. (A case study at the first grade of MA Al-Khairiyah Pabuaran)

This research investigated on the exploring small group discussion method in teaching speaking at MA Al-Khairiyah Pabuaran. It was conducted based on to the main problem. 1) How is Small Group Discussion applied in teaching Speaking? 2) How is the students’ respond in Speaking using Small Group Discussion? 3) What difficulties are faced by students’ in teaching Speaking? The research designed of this study was case study research with qualitative approach. The researcher collected the data from 15 students. The instruments were observation, and interview. The result showed that the teaching process using small group discussion method is a method that involves students’ in doing things and thinking about material. It involves students’ directly and actively in the learning process it self. It is found that the lack of the students’ ability in speaking and confident when they speak in front of friends. Thus in applying teaching speaking in the class, let the students gets involved actively, in order to achieve optimizing of students ability. The students respond on SGD feel the enjoy and happy, because they gets new vocabulary. In addition, relating to the difficulties in learning speaking because they have limited understanding of vocabulary and grammar. Keyword: Teaching Speaking, Small Group Discussion.
