One of the famous commentators is Sayyid Quṭb, he is a scientist, literary, Egyptian commentator and thinker who has works in various fields. One of his works is the Tafsīr Fī Ẓilāl Al-Qur'ān with the taḥlili method, and his tafsir style including the Adābi al-Ijtimā'i style. In the social problem that the writer takes is that which often appear in the society that is about understanding the meaning of kafir. Kafir is a familiar word for Muslims, but most of the Muslims themselves do not know the meaning of infidels and wrong in interpreting the infidel from the word kafir itself. Do not even know it at all, and the term pagan is so familiarly used with a variety of meanings for its sake. The protracted splits and disputes among Muslims that later became a serious theological issue, causing the misuse of pagan words and meanings in punishing a Muslim became increasingly enlarged to this day.
Based on the above background, then the formulation of the problem in this paper is as follows: 1). What is the meaning of kafir in the perspective of the Qur'an? 2). How does Sayyid Quṭb's interpretation of the Qur'anic verses relating to the kafir? The purpose of this study are: 1). To know the meaning of kafir in the perspective of the Qur'an. 2). To know Sayyid Quṭb's interpretation of the Qur'anic verses relating to the kafir.
The method used in this research is qualitative method or library (library research). Namely by collecting data and books by Muslim scholars.
From some of the above problems it can be concluded that: 1). Kufr is the unbeliever's character according to the Qur'an which means to cover up, deny, and belie that the unbelievers are the opposite of the unfeasible faith in their hearts and deeds that deny and cover up and deny all that Allah has given them in the form of good God's teachings and religion it is to his apostles, his verses, his books, his angels, and the day of the end. In the Qur'an the term kafir in the form of the word jadiannya as much as 525 times and six words invented, although not entirely refer to the meaning of kafir in term but language. 2). According to Sayyid Qutb kafir are small and dwarf people who deny, cover and belie God, His apostles, His teachings, and what God has given them. This pagan word contains a broad meaning not only in the form of a denial of God and His Messenger. But everything that is only concerned with his love of his world alone without thinking about his life after the world.
