Nowadays, English become the need and necessity of each individual. English become a subject in every school, the students have to master language skills and language compnents. One of language components is grammar, there are many aspects discussed in English grammar one of them is 'modal auxiliaries'of 'modal verb, some students still make mistakes and find dicfficulty in identifying modal. This study is aim to find out the problems faced by students in eleventh grade Senior High School Prisma Sanjaya Serang in learning modal auxiliary. In this study, the writer limit the problems only in modal auxiliaries can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might and must. The writer does not want to know why students have difficuly in studying the modal auxiliary, but also to determine the level of understanding of students in the modal auxiliary. After knowing in extent the students difficulties in learning modal auxiliary, expected the teachers find out appropriate methods in teaching modal auxiliary.</note>
