An Analysis of English Textbook for Seventh Grades Junior High School entitled “English for Nusantara” Based on The Merdeka Curriculum (A Qualitative Research at SMP Plus Abu Chamid, Kragilan-Banten)


A textbook must be conforming to the curriculum and the situations in which it will be used. Likewise, with English subject in the Merdeka curriculum which is the recent implemented curriculum in Indonesia, that surely has learning outcomes that student need to achieve. This research is to analyze the conformity of textbook used by the teacher as teaching resources based on the Merdeka curriculum. This research used qualitative method, with using content analysis method by analyzing the contents of documents related to the research problem. The instrument used in this study is checklist rubric, which is used to see whether or not the English textbook is conform to the Merdeka curriculum that refers to the Regulations of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 25 of 2022 concerning the assessment of educational books, No. 22 of 2022 concerning book quality standards, process standards and rules for obtaining manuscripts, as well as process standards and rules for book publishing, and Regulation Head of Educational Standards, Curriculum And Assessment Agency Ministry of Education, Culture, Research And Technology No. 039/H/P/2022 about Education Book Assessment Guidelines, which includes four aspects, namely; 1) Content of material standard, 2) Presentation standard, 3) Design standard, and 4) Graphic standard. The source of the data for this research is the English textbook for seventh grades junior high school entitled “English for Nusantara”. The researcher determined the criteria used in the checklist rubric; excellent, average, fair, poor. The results of the analysis that has been carried out, it is known that the material contained in the English textbook for seventh grade junior high school "English for Nusantara" was launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture. From the total of four aspects suggested by the Merdeka curriculum that refers to the regulations mentioned above, the two aspects can be categorized as having the right level and meeting the requirements in accordance with the Merdeka curriculum, the two aspects include presentation and design standards, and the other two aspects that do does not meet the standards of the Merdeka curriculum, namely content material standard and graphic standard.
