The Effectiveness of ABC Brainstorm to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery (A Quasi-Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Pandeglang)

The main aims of this study was to examine The effectiveness of ABC Brainstorm to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The writer used a quasi-experimental research method to investigate whether students' vocabulary mastery in experimental class can improve gradually after receiving treatment by using ABC Brainstorm, The writer used a pre-test and a final test by involving 60 students as a sample where they were divided into 2 groups. The writer used a t-test to analyze data and conducted hypothesis testing. The result of this study showed that t0 > tt or 3.27 > 1.67. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted while the null hypothesis (H0) was also rejected. In other words, it may be concluded that there was a significant effect of using ABC Brainstorm to improve students' vocabulary at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Pandeglang. The findings of this study prove that ABC Brainstorm media can increase vocabulary in students by what is conveyed in the book Making Words Their Own: Building Foundations for Powerful Vocabularies by Linda G. Allen & LeAnn Nickelsen that “ABC Brainstorm can provide students with a global understanding of the types of words that students associate with a topic. If students have extensive background knowledge on the topic, the teacher will see that students have listed a variety of words that relate to the content. Students who have little prior knowledge will have fewer words recorded on the organizer, and these will be more general”.
