Comparison of Elsa Speak Application and Hello English Application in Speaking Skills on Descriptive Text (A Comparative Study at The Tenth Grade of SMAN 2 Krakatau Steel Cilegon)


This research aims to compare between Elsa Speak Application and Hello English Application in student achievement and increasing students’ speaking skills in grade 10th. From previous study the researcher has gap research and interest to compare of students achievement in speaking skills using the ELSA Speak application and the Hello English application. In this study, the researcher proposes research questions, that is “Is there any significant differences of students achievment in speaking skills using ELSA Speak application and Hello English Application?”. To respond to the previous researcher, a comparative study method was used using data gathering techniques included pre-test, post-test, and classroom observation. In this research, class 10 Arcturus was taught using the Elsa Speak Application in up to two courses. Meanwhile, class 10 Capela was taught utilizing the Hello English application. The ultimate outcome of this study demonstrated that utilizing the Hello English Application is more successful than using the Elsa Speak Application in improving students' achievement English speaking skills. That can be seen from the result scores of pre-test and post-test. The mean pre-test scores of the Hello English Application and the Elsa Speak Application experimental class students were 41.86 and 45.96, while the post-test scores of class using Hello English Application and Elsa Speak Application were 80.43 and 73.86.
