The Effectiveness of Literature Circle on Students’ Writing Skills Cause and Effect Essay (Pre-Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grades of Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Falah Bojong Pandan Kabupaten Serang)


This study investigates the effectiveness of Literature Circles in improving students' writing skills in cause and effect essays. The research aims to (1) assess the writing ability of 11th-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Falah Bojong Pandan, and (2) determine the influence of Literature Circles on students' writing skills for cause and effect essays. A pre-experimental research method was employed, with a sample comprising 23 students. The findings reveal that prior to the intervention, students had an average pre-test score of 60.48. After the implementation of Literature Circles, their average post-test score improved to 70.48, indicating a substantial 21.48% enhancement in their writing skills. Notably, each aspect of writing demonstrated improvement: content increased by 20.18%, organization by 17.08%, language use by 23.42%, vocabulary by 31.82%, and mechanical aspects by 8.40%. Statistical analysis, through t-test calculations, showed that to:tt = 6.98 > 1.717 at a 5% significance level and to:tt = 6.98 > 2.508 at a 1% significance level, underscoring the significant impact of Literature Circles on students' writing skills. In conclusion, the use of the Literature Circle method has proven effective in enhancing students' writing skills for cause and effect essays. The results highlight the positive influence of Literature Circles on various writing aspects and underscore their potential to improve students' overall writing proficiency
