Improving Student’s Speaking Skills by Using Cake Application (A Classroom Action Research at the Seventh Gtrade of MTs Masyariqul Anwar)


This study aims to investigate the use of the Cake application in improving speaking skills, to analyze students' progress in speaking skills, and to know students' responses to speaking skills. To achieve these objectives, this study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps such as planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This study involved 35 seventh-grade students of MTs Masyariqul Anwar. The result of the speaking test showed that in the pre-cycle, there were only 3 students who scored 65 or achieved the minimum criteria of completeness. Meanwhile, in Cycle 1, there was an increase of 13 students. Then, in Cycle 2, there was a significant increase, there were 24 students with a percentage of 68.57%. In addition, the result of the observation showed that the students were more motivated to learn English speaking. The students looked enthusiastic, more confident, and not afraid of their English, not only that but every student gave a positive response. Furthermore, the result of the interview showed that the Cake application was fun and friendly to use, which motivated the students to improve their speaking skills. Based on the above results of both qualitative and quantitative results, it can be concluded that the use of Cake application media can improve students' speaking skills. The results of this research showed that the speaking skills by using the Cake application achieved better performance than those who did not use it. Therefore, the Cake application can be used as a media to teach speaking.
