A Semantic Analysis of Idiomatic Expressions in English Textbook For Junior High School

This study aims to Classify the types of idiomatic expressions that are found in junior high school English textbook and To interpret contextual meaning of the idiomatic expressions that found in the junior high school English textbook. The method oof research used is Qualitative Research, Qualitative research is research for explore and understand the meaning. The purpose of this research is to reveal descriptive data in the form of written data as a result of document content analysis. Qualitative content analysis allows researchers to understand the text by grouping words into categories, because In this study, researchers analyzed books in the English text book category. The result of this research is the researcher found out 15 idiomatic expressions that are in the textbook. There are seven types of idiom either it is Pure idiom, Binomial idiom, Partial idiom, Prepositional idiom, Proverbs idiom, Euphemisims idiom, and Clichés idiom. From those type the in English textbook for Junior High School found the types of idiom as follow: there are 1 Idiomatic expressions of Pure idiom, there are 1 Idiomatic expressions of Binomial idiom, there are 8 Idiomatic expressions of Partial idiom, there are 4 Idiomatic expressions of Prepositional idiom, there are 1 Idiomatic expressions of Euphemisms idiom. Here to know the meaning of idiom in English textbook for junior high school. Can be read in Chapter IV. Based on the result, Students of junior high school, You can read this research to find out the meaning of idioms in your textbook. You will find idioms in other books and movie, for that you have to learn idioms, you can learn by read this research.
