The Analysis of Derivational and Inflectional Morpheme in the Lyrics of Harris J’s Songs


This research analysis the derivational and inflectional morphemes in song
lyrics. This research aimed to identify the derivational and inflectional
morphemes in Harris J‟s song‟s lyrics and disclose the dominant types of
derivational and inflectional morphemes that used in those songs. This
research used qualitative content analysis method. The data were obtained
from Harris J‟s songs lyric on the internet. Title of the songs they are, Salam
„Alaikum, Good Life, Rasool‟ Allah, The One, Paradise, I Promise and Love
Who You Are by Harris J. The result showed that 11 derivational affixes
found in seven songs lyric: 9 suffixes and 2 prefixes. Those appearance
suffixes were “ness, ful, ing and, en”, the appearance prefix was “un” and
“in”. Meanwhile the inflectional showed 64 affixes found in the seven songs
lyric. All kinds of inflections are found –s plural, -s third singular person,
“ing progressive, “ed” past tense, “ed” past participle”, “er” comparative,
and ”est” superlative. The most dominant morpheme was inflectional
morpheme with 64 affixes found in seven songs of Harris J. The implication
for English education department is TBI alumni as teacher candidates use
song as a media for learning.
