Error Analysis of Twelfth Grade Students’-ed Ending Pronunciation at SMAN 1 Ciomas
The main objective of this research is to find out the most frequently type of error made by students in pronouncing –ed ending words as well as to find out the cause factors of students making the errors. –ed ending itself has a different sound namely the sound /d/, /t/ and /id/ at the end of the word. This type of research is a case study with qualitative design. Meanwhile, the subject of the study was the twelfth grade students at SMAN 1 Ciomas and consisted of 17 students. Data were collected by recording the students’ sounds of the record test and interview. The result showed that most frequent type of errors made by the twelfth grade students of SMAN 1 Ciomas was errors of misformation with 218 of total errors or 54,09%. The second is omission with 118 of total errors or 29,28% followed by addition with 64 of total errors or 16%. The last is misordering error with 3 of total errors or 0,74%. The cause factors of the students made error in pronouncing –ed ending words are interlingual transfer or interference from the learner's mother tongue, intralingual transfer which occurs within the target language itself, lack of interest and motivation, lack of knowledge and the amount of exposure.
