Correlation Between Students’ Self-Efficacy and Their Reading Comprehension (A Correlational Study at the Seventh Grade of SMPN 3 Kota Cilegon)


This research was investigated to find out the correlation and to define the significance of the correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMPN 3 Cilegon in 2022/2023 academic year. This study used correlational study specifically correlational research design. The instruments used in this study are questionnaire and test. This research involves 32 students as sample among seventh grade of SMPN 3 Cilegon. The research finding of the last result showed that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their reading comprehension. The correlation result is rcount = 0.566 and from N = 32 is rtable in the level significance 5 % = 0.349. So, rcount more than rtable (0.566 > 0.345) which means there is correlation between two variable. In addition, the significance value is less than 0.05 (0.001 < 0.05). It indicates that the correlation is significant. Thus null hypothesis Ho is rejected alternative hypothesis Ha accepted. The result of this research showed that there is a positive correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMPN 3 Cilegon in academic year 2022/2023.
