Increasing Students’ Speaking Skill Through Conversation (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 7 Kota Serang)


This research is conducted to investigate the effectiveness of conversation to
increase students’ speaking skill at the eleventh grade of SMAN 7 Kota Serang.
The research is conducted based on some problems: 1. How are the students’
speaking skill at the eleventh grade of SMAN 7 Kota Serang? 2. How is the effect
of using conversation in increasing students’ speaking skill at the eleventh grade of
SMAN 7 Kota Serang? The researcher collected data from 60 students that spared
into two classes, one class as an experiment class and another one as a control
class. The researcher used a quasi experimental research design with use the
instruments were three stages are pre-test, treatment and post-test. Population of the
research was the eleventh grade of SMAN 7 Kota Serang, academic year
2021/2022. The sample of the research used class XI IPS 1 as experiment class and
XI IPS 2 as control class. The data analysis of this research used t-test. The result
of this research indicates the effect of using conversation in increasing students'
speaking skill. The effect of treatment seen from the post-test results of the
experimental and control class an average of 69,3>52,5 and the effect of this
treatment is 65%, which means that there is a significant effect of using
conversation in increasing students' speaking skill.
