A MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF COMPOUND WORDS IN NOVEL “MUTUAL FEELINGS” BY BILLY TAYLOR


This study analyzed the compound words that most found in the novel “Mutual Feelings” by Billy Taylor. Compounding is a common type of word formation in English. Compounding consists of combination of two or more words. They can function as different part of speech, which can dictate what form the compound takes on. To know the process of word formation on English compounding words, also the types and forms of compounding words that most found in novel, the writer conduct descriptive qualitative research and content analysis method. This study cassifies the data on compounding word, focused on types and forms of compounding words, and analyze the types and forms of compounding words. The result of this study is for the types of compound words, there are 13 endocentric compounds, 10 exocentric compounds, and 7 copulative compounds. Furthermore, for the forms of compound words, there are 9 compound words that written by open, 12 compound words that written by solid, and 9 compound words that written by hyphenated. In addition, the result of this data, the types of compound words is dominated by endocentric compound, and for the forms of compound words is dominated by solid forms.
