ANALYSIS OF TEACHER STRATEGY TO MINIMIZE STUDENTS’ ANXIETY IN ENGLISH SPEAKING PRACTICE (A Case Study at the Eleventh Grade of MAN 1 Pandeglang)
This study aims to analyze the factors of students' anxiety in practicing English speaking and to explore the teacher's strategy to minimize students' anxiety in English speaking practice. This study uses a case study. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews and document analysis. The results of this study indicate that there are six factors that influence students' anxiety in English speaking practice, including: (1) Lack of confidence, (2) Lack of vocabulary, (3) Afraid of making mistakes, (4) Low motivation , (5 ) Negative feedback from the English teacher, and (6) Fear of negative experience. Meanwhile, the second findings shows that there are two the teachers' strategies used to minimize students' anxiety in English speaking practice at the eleventh grade of MAN 1 Pandeglang were: (1) Peer Group with cooperative language learning approach type Students Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD), and (2) Role Play. When the English teacher applied this strategy at eleventh grade of MAN 1 Pandeglang, the students were very enthusiastic and the anxiety level were decrease gradually and it stimulated students to practice speaking English in the learning processes. In addition, They were also more confident, more active in speaking and less anxious.
