The Relationship Between Students' Learning Style and Their Reading Comprehension of Recount Text (A Correlational Study At Eighth Grade In SMP Insan Madani Kota Serang)


This research was conducted to know what learning styles are mostly dominant in eighth grade of students SMP Insan Madani and also to discover the correlation between Students’ Learning Style and Their Reading Comprehension of Recount Text at Eighth Grade in SMP Insan Madani Kota Serang. This quantitative research is correlational study using Pearson’s Correlation Product Moment technique. The data were collected by using learning style questionnaire and reading comprehension test of recount text. There were 20 students from 1 class as the population and also be sample of this research. From the calculation by Product Moment formula, it is obtained that the value of “r” product moment (rxy) or “r” result (ro) is 0,124. The degree of freedom (df) is 18. The degree of significance 5% is 0.468 and the degree of significance 1% is 0.590. The hypothesis ro is lower than rt (0,124 < 0.468) and (0,124 < 0.590). The result hypothesis of this research is the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. It can be concluded that there is no correlation between learning style and their reading comprehension of recount text.
