Teacher’s Strategies to Improve Students’ Self-Confidence in Speaking English (A Case Study at Second Grade of Mts. Al-Khairiyah Pakuncen)
This study aims to investigate teacher’s strategies to improve students’ self-confidence in speaking English. The formulated problem of this study that is: “How the strategies are used to improve self-confidence by the teacher in learning speaking English?” This research was conducted through descriptive qualitative research. The type of research was specifically a case study. In this research the researcher focuses on teacher’s strategies to improve students’ self-confidence in speaking English. The participant of this study is an English Teacher at the second grade of Mts. Al-khairiyah Pakuncen. The researcher collected data were used direct observation and interview. In collected data direct observation, the researcher conducted in two classes at second grade (VIIIA and VIII B) of Mts. Al-khairiyah Pakuncen. Besides, in collected data interview, the researcher did interview face to face with an Eglish teacher to get more information of the strategies used in teaching and learning process of speaking English The result of the study showed that the teacher’s strategies to improve students self-confidence in speaking English, the researcher found several strategies used by the teacher namely conversation, storytelling, presentation and task repitition. Teacher used those strategies because easy to practice and the media available. Sometimes, several other strategies used by the teacher, but they are very rare because students get boring and unexcited to practice.
