A Comparative Study Between Extrovert and Introvert Students On Speaking Performance (A Quantitative Research at Ninth Grade of Integrated Junior High School Al-Husein)


Speaking ability is an important key in daily communication and is one of the skills that students must master in the implementation of learning English. Students must get a good portion of learning and practice to master it, as well as the appropriate technique based on the student's personality. The goal of this study was to see if there was a difference in speaking performance between extroverted and introverted students in class IX at Integrated Junior High School Al-Husein. Samples were taken as many as 50 students using Cluster Random Sampling. This study uses a quantitative approach and this type of research is causal-comparative. In collecting data, researchers distributed questionnaires to respondents to determine extroverted and introverted students, consisting of 24 questions developed from extrovert and introvert indicators and questions adopted from the Eysenck Personality Inventory. Then, the researcher used an oral test to determine the students' speaking ability. The researcher used the Independent Sample T-test to analyze the data. Then, the results of the Independent Sample T-test showed that tcount < ttable or (2.90 < 2.94) means that statistically significant difference. The null hypothesis is accepted while the alternative hypothesis is rejected. In conclusion, there is significant difference in students' speaking ability between extroverted and introverted students. The result showed that introvert students outperformed than extrovert students in speaking performance.
