The Correlation Between Students’ Vocabulary Mastery and Their Reading Comprehension ( A Correlation Study for Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 2 Pandeglang in the Academic Year of 2020/2021)


This study aims to find the objective condition from the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension at SMAN 2 Pandeglang. The research was correlation research. There were two tests used in collecting the data for this research: vocabulary test and reading comprehension test. The population of this research was 416 students. Then, in taking the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling and chose 80 students from three classes. To collect the data, the researcher used multiple choice test. By using Pearson Product Moment Formula through SPSS 21.0 in analyzing the data. The result of this data analysis is shown that r is 0.722 and rtabel is 0,219 at significant 5% with degree of freedom (df = N-nr) is 78. Therefore, r > rtable (0.722 > 0.219). It means that Ha was accepted and there is a significant correlation. The writer also found that 52.1% students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at SMAN 2 Pandeglang influenced by their vocabulary mastery. Then, the other 47.9% was influenced by other factors.
