Explorative Study of The Constraints in Teaching and Learning Online Process during The Covid-19 Pandemic (Qualitative Research Study at Islamic Junior High School Darul Huda Cikoneng)


Covid-19 outbreak has spread rapidly all over the world, impacting on the education system. The students have to study at home. Teachers have to apply the online class in conducting the teaching and learning process. But it is not easy, they face some problems. The aims of this research is to find out and describe the constraints faced by students and teachers in conducting online teaching and learning during this Covid-19 outbreak and their perceptions. The study uses an exploratory case study, and for the research approach use a qualitative case study method to obtain information about the constraints of the pandemic Covid-19 on teaching and learning activities and their perceptions. In this study, the respondents are 30 students for questionnaire section, 3 students, 3 teachers and 3 parents of the Darul Huda Cikoneng Islamic junior high school for interviews section. The list of questionnaire and semi-structure interview questions is develop based on the related literature and use to collect in-depth information from the respondents. The findings of this research reveal some constraints experienced by students, teachers, and parents in online teaching and learning during Covid-19 outbreak and their perceptions. The constraints related to students are: they have difficulties to manage their time, internet access issues or device, and run out of internet quotas. The parents’s problem is more related difficulties to understand the material of online learning and higher internet bills. Teachers identified constraints, they have difficulties because of their lack of technology skills that hinder the potential of online learning. The perception of students, teachers and parents of studying at home are quite bad because their opinion about online learning is less effective than face-to-face learning. It can be concluded that online learning during Covid-19 have some constraints and give bad perception for students, teacher and parents of Darul Huda Cikoneng Islamic Junior High School.
